Still Sucking his Thumb

Connor turned two back in April and he is still sucking his thumb. He only does it at night or nap time when he has his blanky (basically when he is tired). Only three and a half months till the baby will be here so I am thinking I should do something about it now rather than having to deal with an angry two-year-old at night as well as a newborn. If anyone has any suggestions or knows of something that works let me know.

Good luck! We have asked every pediatrician how to stop this with Walker and that's what they tell us. You can try the nail polish you put on to try to stop nail biting, it's bitter tasting and kinda prickles your tongue, hot sauce, vinegar, any kind of sauce, duct taping socks around his hands (Rikk came up with that one, but he would just suck his thumb through the sock). He will eventually out grow it. I know that is something you don't want to hear...believe me I hated that Walker didn't stop until just recently. He sucked his thumb at bedtime and in the car (because he'd get tired). But those are the things we tried. The nail polish and different sauces Walker loved. He would suck it off and ask for more! If you figure something out let me know and GOOD LUCK!!!

I'm just glad Abigail was a pacifier kid. We just recently broke her of it, so that was nice. And it was easy. She kinda did it herself. As for a thumb, that's much harder to take away. I think onestepahead.com had this contraption thing to put on their hand that could maybe help. You might want to check that out.

When you figure it out let me know. Ila still sucks her thumb! The dentist told her if she didn't stop they would put spikes in her mouth to poke her every time she tried to suck her thumb. It hasn't worked yet!

I don't know on that one we have binkie habits at our house, I did work for an Orthodontist though that put a lot of appliances in kids mouths (like what Arin said) but the kids were always much older! Good Luck!

Our dentist said it wouldn't start really messing up their teeth until around 3 years old...so we still have a year with Will and I hope he stops by then. Good Luck. Oh and my mom promised my brother a tricycle if he would never suck his thumb again. He never did and I think it was a rare situation of a very determined 2 year old!
